Who here is good at art analysis? :(
I need help with this essay I am FUCKED

Edit: It has come to my attention I am too far screwed for hope. Weeks of hard work wasted by the fact the teacher can't communicate what she wants done. So, I'm stuck sitting here staring at another blank computer document because once again my entire essay is unusable and I don't know what I can do to fix it this time.

Well there are a few things that immediately catch my eye. First is that this buddha is depicted as physically fit. This is no "fat buddha," Look at his chest, it has pronounced pectorals; it is lean and muscular. Is there possibly some symbolism in only revealing half of the chest? How about the spiral pattern of the hair?

How about the ears with comparison to the body? Those ears are long and drooping, like an old man's ears after life has robbed them of collagen. Yet the face is not old, the body is not old. Perhaps in the culture this came from, the drooping ears were used to denote the wisdom that comes with age and experience?

What about how the feet are wrapped in cloth?

I have to write an essay on that and like 90% has to be analysis. I suck at that. :(
Maybe just point out some things I should focus on?

You could focus on the decorative elements, the static pose, organic patterns and lines in the decorative motives, the aligment and proportions , quite balanced in this case...etc. And since it's a sculpture you could say it's a frontal piece, the frontal look is the most important and makes it less dinamic than other type of sculptures in which all the views are fundamental (this makes the viewer a dinamic element since it has to move to see the full piece)

You said you can't do more research, that includes comparing this piece with other works ? Cause that would help you describe the elements.

So. It's late and I'm tired and sleepy, I can't think of much else right now. I'm sure I'm missing lots of important stuff...
Anyways, good luck with your essay!

I can compare with things that are in the text book, want me to upload some of the notes so you can see my options?

No problem. I'm not sure I'll be of much help though. But if you have photos of other sculptures you can compare the one you have to describe with, then that's cool.
